Czardas for Violin & Concert Band
Monti's Czardas is one of the most beloved virtuoso showpieces in the violin repertoire, renowned for its dramatic contrasts, fiery technical brilliance and unmistakable Hungarian character. This arrangement for Solo Violin and Concert Band faithfully captures the excitement and passion of the original while adding a colourful and sympathetic wind band accompaniment.
Beginning with the expressive and lyrical lassú (slow section), the music gradually builds in intensity before launching into the exhilarating friss, where dazzling violin passages, rapid articulation and infectious rhythmic energy propel the work towards a thrilling conclusion.
The concert band scoring has been carefully crafted to complement rather than overpower the soloist, allowing the violin to shine throughout while providing rich harmonic textures, vibrant sonorities and exciting climactic moments.
This arrangement has enjoyed international performance success, including a live performance in Ipoh, Malaysia (2012) by violinist Veronica, and a further performance with the Appassionata Wind Orchestra, South Korea (25 October 2015) featuring the remarkable 10-year-old violinist Yong I-Su.
Suitable for advanced school, university, community and professional ensembles, Czardas makes an ideal concert feature, festival showcase, competition item or encore piece.
