D-Day for British Brass Band
D-Day March
for British Brass Band
Composed by Keith Terrett
D-Day March is a bold and inspiring concert march for British-style brass band, commemorating the Allied landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944—one of the defining moments of the Second World War. Rather than portraying the battle itself, the work celebrates the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who took part in Operation Overlord.
Following a commanding fanfare opening, the march develops through energetic first and second strains before arriving at a broad, noble trio that showcases the warm, sonorous sound of the brass band. A dynamic break strain leads to a triumphant final statement, bringing the work to a stirring and memorable conclusion.
Written to exploit the full colour and power of the modern brass band, D-Day March combines brilliant cornet writing, lyrical solo passages, rich horn and baritone textures, and a strong euphonium and bass foundation. It is both rewarding to perform and exciting for audiences, making it an ideal choice for concerts, remembrance events, military commemorations, gala performances, and ceremonial occasions.
Suitable for bands from approximately 3rd Section to Championship Section, the march offers musical interest without excessive technical difficulty, placing emphasis on precision, style, balance, and musical expression.
Duration: Approximately 4–5 minutes.
